What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved treatment that temporarily reduces numerous signs of skin aging. Although the injectable medication is specifically approved for crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines, it can also be used off-label to treat other areas of the face.
Most men and women only think about the aesthetic applications of Botox, but the medication has been used in medical applications for more than 50 years. For those who are concerned about the safety of this injectable, rest assured that the aesthetic uses of Botox are backed by more than 15 years of clinical studies and is the subject of more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific articles.
How does Botox work?
Botox is used widely to correct facial expression lines that appear with intrinsic and extrinsic skin aging. Facial movements, caused by muscle contraction, crease the skin with their action. These creases later turn into, what we call, static lines that are noted when the face is at rest, or without movement. Made from a naturally occurring substance, Botox acts as a neurotoxin that relax targeted facial muscles. In turn, the skin stays relaxed and corrects itself over time. This leads to the softening of current lines seen while prohibiting new lines from being formed.
You’ll still be able to make normal facial expressions, and your face will still move in a natural manner. However, the muscles that cause horizontal forehead lines, wrinkles at the sides of your eyes, and that little furrow between your brows will be relaxed, leaving your skin smoother in those areas.
Is Botox Painful?
Botox is administered via injection and are performed using a thin needle. While the treatment of Botox offers no significant discomfort, your cosmetic specialist has extensive experience placing Botox injections and knows exactly how to complete your treatment in the most comfortable way possible.
Getting Botox takes just moments to complete. You’ll be back to your normal daily routines in less time than it takes to grab lunch, with no recovery time needed.
It takes around 48-72 hours for your results to develop. You’ll notice the full result of muscle relaxation on, or around, the seventh day after treatment. Your more youthful and well-rested appearance will be enjoyed for up to four months. If you love your new look, simply book an appointment for another round of injections. There is evidence to suggest that results last even longer for subsequent treatments.

Can you combine the different injectables?
Many patients at The Rolling Stone MedSpa have two or more types of injectable treatments during a single visit.
For example, Botox or Xeomin can be administered to correct the forehead expression lines, Radiesse to fill in the nasolabial folds, and Belotero to add desired lip volume.
Well-placed Belotero and Radiesse injections can give your facial features more symmetry while improving minor contour irregularities. Multiple factors determine the longevity of the results, but one can expect at least six months or longer. Plus, you can get maintenance injections if you’re happy with the effect.
